Homer guards the pepper plants. With a couple of dozen seedlings already set and a couple of dozen more sprouts waiting, I hope to increase production on the farm in the parking lot this year. We have also tomatos, eggplants and kitchen herbs.

Mom's O.K.

Although I waited as always, no one brought me breakfast in bed nor even coffee yesterday. So I got up to get it for myself. The jaded cynic in me was greeted by the scent of lilies from a giant globe of flowers before I entered the kitchen. And with both daughters paying homage with polished silicates, who needs coffee in bed? Thanks, goils!

Not my friend

There was the request from a guy who told me (way back when) that he was too busy working to attend my wedding, before I told him the date of the event. Then there was the guy whose opening I attended. He asked me what I thought of his art. As I was looking at the drawings of leather collared and harness clad women whose faces -and some entire heads-had been idealised right off of them and wondering what to say, he launched into a threatening tirade about my attitude. I honestly thought he was going to hit me. He wants to be my friend? I also get many requests from people I can't remember, to put it charitably. Then there are overtures from people whose assumed personalities I can't figure out. Now I hear that trolls and robots are hiding behing spam "friends" to collect marketing info and spread viruses. Oh, and on a tangent, don't get me started about the warning that I need to enter my phone number to be "protected". So while the Facebook has many useful aspects, such as saving postage on gallery invitations and reposting from this blog, I apologise if it takes me awhile to get back to you.

Local Color

From today's online news. a  reporter from the Baltimore Sun gathering "man on the street" quotes from residents about the spike in crime in the Northeast District collected this opinion from one of a pair of young men complaining about the police presence:

""It's dangerous out here," one of them says. "Police be harassing you, locking you up for nothing."

The crime, they say, hasn't reached a level that requires a new deployment of officers. "A couple murders happen here and there, but it ain't nothing too serious. It's Baltimore City — people gonna die," says the man."
