At two dollars a pop, that avocado had better be good. On second thought, never mind. I've got an eggplant ready to pick on my parking lot and it's crying out for a coat of breadcrumbs and a hot oil treatment.

My Great Dismal Swamp

I am very much aggrieved that the fire in The Great Dismal Swamp has reached such a proportion that we are visited by the smoke 200 miles to the north. My hope is that the massive rains we had earlier move south to help. Hubby and I went there to celebrate our 9th wedding anniversary. It's such a special place, with a lot of history. My work supervisor at the time noted that our love must be true, as we both returned.

Bench by the Side of the Road

I have again taken to early morning walks, it helps keep up the circulation as well as inject some optimism into my day. This week I have seen many, many chairs out for collection. Besides taking photos of them though, it astonishes me how much furniture my neighbors throw out! What's up with that? Frenetic redecorating? Overly boisterous parties?

     Behind a door

        inside a drawer

   hidden from the light of day

     a sad little secret

    is tucked away.

Seeing The Light

In noodling around with a toy light box for tracing, first replacing the expensive batteries and then the hard-to-find bulb, I got it to work for a minute before the bulb fried. (Gnashes teeth) No wonder the previous owner threw it out. The younger daughter suggested I put the Ipod in it, set on high brightness. With the wireless signal out, I couldn't download a flashlight app, but I found setting it on a poetry reader provided enough light to trace some text on seaweed paper for collage. This answers a challenge I had been having for years. Picture a lightbulb light up in a cartoon bubble over my head. Then imagine me reaching into that bubble, grabbing the bulb and putting it into my toy light box. 

The Roller Coaster

These are turbulent times in the mortgage industry. In spite of my best efforts and solid work ethic, my company has downsized and I have been dismissed. Time to stand up strait, dust myself off and keep going.

It seems as if parking lot farming has become quite the art and fashion! Here is another neighbor's south facing operation as seen from the alley;

Mirror by the Side of the Road

Planning ahead a bit, I told my blogging buddy Keith to put mirrors up on the north wall of his living room to maximize the light for wintering pepper plants. He told me he couldn't afford mirrors.Huh. I forgot that there are places where people actually have to spend money on furnishings. In Baltimore, if you are patient, your every household need can be found by the side of the road.
