Ah, Spring! When this woman's thoughts turn to raw vegetables! And lamb! Well, no. These urges have been eclipsed by the gnawing anxiety provided by the maze of procuring health care coverage after the COBRA expired from the lousey policy that came with the last rotten corporate job I held. Then the scanty short term insurance we held after that gave out. After four months, FOUR MONTHS stringing us along while examining our records, The Big Blue would not underwrite us as individuals at any cost, and I had visions of returning to the banking system for their inadequate "benefit", just so that I could go in for maintenance before my engine seized for lack of oil. Which, by the way, scheduling all those routine exams just as your policy at a new job kicks in will get you fired, anyway. But wait! We live in Maryland! The state mailed me a letter telling me I will have coverage for my family for 560 a month, with a 1,000 annual deductable. I don't know about you, but that's a lot cheaper than my useless high deductable from the insurance that no one would take. I am saved! For now. They probably won't pay for that fancy funny farm on North Charles Street*, so I think I'll see what's in the vegetable bin.
* Big Blue paid for it before!
