Beer Summit

As always, CNN reports the really important details about current events, in this instance the conference with all the parties concerned in the Cambridge imbroglio.

"The president was drinking Bud Light, Biden was drinking Buckler, Gates was drinking Samuel Adams Light, and Crowley was drinking Blue Moon."

If the president asked you over for an official White House beer, what would you choose? It would have to be American, of course. But I think it would really have to be a brew that counts. I'd go for a Yuengling Black and Tan  for this particular conference. Smooth and yummy, it proves we really all can get along.

Willy Nilly

When my college friend, Spot, came to visit last week, he asked me how to get to the harbor from my house. "That's easy!", I said. "The #61 bus will pick you up at the corner and take you there directly!".  Then without checking the actual schedule, I minced off to my second interview at a banking concern clad in silks, full of optimism and promise. Besides the bank never calling me back, the bus never came for Spot. He spent several hours observing the patrons at the coffee bar on the boulevard. He returned to the house grateful that at least he hadn't boarded a bus on a random route to Hell, as so often happens to transit noviates in this town. But seriously, what's up with a bus on a major street taking a five hour break during the weekday? No wonder no one who doesn't have to takes the bus. No wonder they can't stay in the black.

Yarn Bombing comes to Baltimore

While the Utne Reader calls it an international guerilla knitting movement,  I'm finding the hand-knit cozies on the trees and traffic signs in Hampden kind of comforting. Someone tenderly knit a sweater for this utility pole.

 

This one is on Thirty Sixth Street, "The Avenue". I knocked on the door of the yarn store nearby (a stunningly obvious move) to ask after it, but Lovelyarns wasn't open. Sue Caldwell answered an e-mail on their behalf and invited me to view her Flickr album of the tree sweater I noticed there earlier in the year and other pieces of knit graffitti. I will be on the lookout for other works in progress as well as a little red tree down the street I hadn't spotted yet.
