Doin' the Cha Cha Cha

It seems as if most of my energy these days has been spent at work. And the only thing I can tell you about that is that I'm getting good at RESPA compliance and how differently it gets interpreted by various wholesalers. Scintillating, I know. Try to contain your jealousy.

 

An ongoing theme

I was again ruminating over the Chairs By The Side Of The Road condundrum after we spotted one on the drive to the tot's school. "Mom! People put them there because they don't want them anymore!" She sounded utterly exasperated that I was still pondering something so obvious to her. And then it dawned on me that it could be as simple as that. Here is a chair that even the intake workers at the thrift store's loading dock rejected.

Yesterday I walked into the nursery and told the young woman that I was looking for seedlings of weapons grade peppers. "It's awfully early for peppers.", she replied, not reacting to my implied threat to humanity. She was more concerned about the frost. I told her I lived in the city and she decided it was safe to sell me a Cayenne, it was the hottest-in fact, the only hot pepper-she had. Later, though, I found an Ecuadorian Hot Lemon pepper at the big box hardware store. I'll plant them (and also the white eggplant) this evening.

* At about 2 dollars a plant, it's cheap enough.

With Anaheims, Cowhorns, Hot Bananas and New Mexico Big Jims. Maybe I'll set a world record in my parking lot.

Down on the farm

Thanks to some scrounging and donations, this year I have plenty of pots and containers for my farm in the parking lot. Even the really cheap ones add up when you talk in terms of gallons. Yesterday afternoon I put in African Blue and lemon basil, Hungarian Wax, Redskin (mild) and Kung Pao peppers and two tomato plants. Tomatos really don't float my boat like the peppers so we are just having Beefsteak and Yellow Taxi, both reliable and hardy. I also planted a Black Beauty eggplant, some English thyme and a tiny jasmine. And the season is so young. I'll be looking for more peppers and maybe even a squash plant. I hear one's all you need.
