I'm not waiting for this bus

You've read my rants about public transportation in this town, now this happens. From yesterday's Baltimore Sun:

Maryland Transit Administration Police have charged an MTA bus driver with assault after an early Saturday morning altercation with a passenger near Eastpoint Mall in Baltimore County, according to a police statement.

The passenger, Ricardo Devon Hale, was stabbed with a knife on the bus in the 7800 block of Eastern Avenue, the release said. Hale, who is 44 years old, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

The 28-year-old bus driver, Brian Jamal Marshall, was hired by the MTA in 2006. He is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center and facing charges of attempted murder, assault, aggravated assault, and possession of a deadly weapon, police said.

Pepper Blogging, what's at stake

I told my British blog buddy and pepper growing noviate Keith that I don't like to stake my pepper plants unless they can't stand up on their own. This morning on the parking lot I saw that the Bulgarian Carrot pepper plant was so weighted by crop it was hanging over the side of its pot. Poor thing. A wooden skewer from the kitchen and a loose loop of picture hanging wire helped me set it upright. I used a couple of them, still green, in chile last weekend. While they are not yet as hot as the Jalepeno, when they ripen to orange they should be. Behind this plant are pictured Cowhorns, which turn cadmium red and are almost as robust.

Another friend is giving me a quart of pea gravel, for the base of the lighthouse. Anyone got a mini strobe light?

Crowd Source Success!

Shortly after posting a request for paper maps of Northern Virginia, an aquaintance of long standing left a bundle of them, packed and labled for me at the notorious Mount Royal Tavern. With them, the Lighthouse of Alexandria is progressing nicely*. Now! Does anyone know of an opening for a Resident Artist at a local brewery?

* Be patient! You'll see it when I'm done!

Farm Report

 

Here are shown the sucessfully wintered Kung Pao pepper (at left after a less mature seedling), with a dozen fruits almost ripe. In the center stands the Hot Cherry pepper plant. You can only see one fruit about the size of a ping pong ball but there are several. At right are the Big Boy tomatoes. Also fruiting are the Pimientos, two of the Cowhorns, the Bullhorns, the Belgian Carrot peppers, the wintered Lemon, several of the Bell varieties and the Pepperonocini. This year I have channeled my obsessive compulsive behaviors into 55 pots of peppers on my parking lot.

Pulling out the stops

I am working with an ancient set of Sargent soft pastels. 100 in a flat wooden dovetailed case, with rusted ball latches-a lot of these pigments are now off the market because they are dangerous or too expensive to produce. Cobalt, pure Cadmium sulfides, Chromium oxides and, bonus! Vermillion! Genuine Ultramarine, guaranteed! No. Not sharing. Gotta wash up now.
