A Classical Approach

While a household without Mr. Beetz seems alien enough, there is the matter of the room he has left vacant. Vacant room...another alien concept. This particular room is in the basement, so it needs to dry out. Dry or not, though, it's got three windows and faces south. You following where I'm goin' here? Building stadium style accomodations with milk crates and planks, I might be able to winter the entire pepper farm this year.

Is it the Equinox? Something's in the air, maybe it's been the effect of the past weeks of incessant rain. Perhaps all this mildew is releasing spores of insanity. Whatever it is, the citizenry around here is looking pastier, puffier, more lumpy and dumpy that ever. I saw a woman at a bus stop endlessly muttering "I can't believe it, I just can't believe it", as she rummaged through her bag, rearranging bottles in brown paper. I was sitting in the family beauty parlor when an acquaintance from the past resurfaced, drunk. He grabbed my forearm, asking after an illness gone for decades and whether I were angry with him. I told him I just wanted to stay focused and on task as I put his filmsy poncho back on him like a giant infant and ejected him into the rain. That same morning a man shot himself outside the E.R. a couple of blocks away. He wanted to donate his organs. People walk in front of my car as I drive, oblivious of lights or crossing stripes, wearing ill fitting rags and vacant stares. Yesterday I went for a beer at the Tavern. Even though I hid myself away in the old timers' section, another long time acquaintance zeroed in on the empty stool at my side. After some chit chat I asked after his father and anger issues bubbled up to the surface and exploded. He wanted to know if I was still married and I fled. I'm hoping some sunny weather comes along and gives us all a chance to dry out.

On a drier day

It used to be that the cat, Homer, would wait at the trail head to follow the younger daughter home from school. Now it seems as if he wants to follow her most of the way there in the morning, quacking and chatting on the way.

City police are investigating a burglary at the home of former Mayor Sheila Dixon, officials confirmed Tuesday.
The break-in occurred sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning, while Dixon was away from the home in 600 block of Winans Way, Dixon told police, according to a police report.

The intruder apparently entered through a kitchen window and "ransacked" the second floor bedrooms. Dixon told officers she was unsure of the extent of the theft, but said XBox and Wii game systems and jewelry were taken, the report shows.

Last year, the city took back a security system installed in Dixon's home during her tenure as mayor but which had been left there after she stepped down following her 2009 conviction for taking gift cards intended for the poor.

Such delicious irony, considering the gift cards she snitched were used to buy those game systems! And, such remarkable restraint on behalf of the reporter! Bravo, Mr. Fenton.

We have another pint of ornamentals in vodka. I'll figure out what to do with them when I'm done, not being big on the vodka myself.

Laying a ground

While he may have scared the bejabbers out of me, my first drawing instructor gave me some useful and ancient lessons on grounds. Not coffee grounds. This even field was achieved with watercolor crayon and tomorrow I'll mimic something classical on it. Maybe. Maybe another classical pepper attack.
