The burn

Between cooking feasts and pots of soup I have been making hot sauce. I gave fellow hots aspirant, Neil, a tube of a sauce that will take your head off! He said it had a lot of personality and gave me a bottle of his latest experiment in exchange. Nice having breakfast clear one's sinuses right to the fingertips!

I remember that day
Driving in the sun
I saw a bust on Coldspring
A license plate that read
Eschew Confuscation
And step dancers in the median strip
In spangly tutus
Wagging buckets for change

There's something about the rain that fosters regret.

And so it begins

We begin our Thanksgiving preparations with corn muffins. This gives them a few days to stale up for corn bread dressing, at the side of our roast. No turkey this year.

Oats, Peas, Beans and Barley

I remember a time in my 20's when my household adopted a fruitarian life style. Fruits, vegetables and seeds were the main fare, supplemented by a lttle brown rice. I think the lima beans really sustained me. The shifting of seasons has me thinking of parsnips, yams and Yukon Golds, mashed. It's time to celebrate root vegetables!

You correctly indentified my adoptee as a member of the Wandering Jew family. After I previously posted my question about the plant I adopted Sunday, I sent the picture to the information deak at the Cylburn Arboretum. This reply came back from staff botanist Scott Ritchie:

"That little gem is Trandescantia sillamontana. White Velvet Plant, sometimes put under the name Setcreasea.

 We use it as a bedding plant in full sun."

Which as a geek,, I find very poetic. I moved it into a south facing window.
