Like clockwork

Polishing off the holiday potatoes and other sides. The first pumpkin pie I ever made is a pleasant history. Next week, as we had a ham, I hope to score a turkey on sale. And maybe a parsnip to slip into to mash.

Silver linings

It's cold and grey out. Though not generally a fan of the season, there are a few things I like about this time of year. Pumpkin doughnuts are nice. With the trees bare the big old houses on the hill tops reveal themselves. My down comforter feels like a soft warm cloud when I surface from sleep. Sometimes the cat, Homer favors it too. And let's not forget the convenience of chilling beer in the trunk of my car.

A new adventure

Yesterday I went to see a doctor I hadn't met before. The first thing he asked-with alarm in his voice-was; "What happened to your eyes? Can you see out of them?" I told him I have wandering eyes and always have, but he insisted on doing the follow-my-finger thing to make sure. And people wonder why I'm so shy. I was tempted to follow my eyes and wander out of the office, but I needed to have my exam completed. And tests. Because I am embarking on a new adventure.

It doesn't take much thought to follow instructions and load up the bread machine. It sure makes the house smell good.

It seems as if the sun sets earlier every day. Oh right.

TMI

My car now "talks" to my telephone so that if I forget where it's parked, I can find it on a map. My telephone also "talks" to my tablet. It sends my photos to cyberspace from which my tablet collects them and I can run them through cool apps in the pursuit of art. It also has noticed that I go to the same place every weekday and wants to know if I need current traffic conditions for my commute. Eager to identify this location beyond "new place", my tablet has been suggesting the names of local businesses as my place of commerce. This was helpful in that I now know what lunch menu options are convenient but not so much when I found out that my office is located in the suite directly above an abortion clinic.

Not Rocket Science

I was quite pleased that I figured out how to replace the blind in my bedroom window. It had been disgracefully tattered for months.

Hardscape

Driving around with the teen I noticed a manhole lid ascribed to the Storm Bureau. Very 'thirties. Even though it was for rain run off management, I thought of an armoire filled with yellow rain suits and black rubber boots.
