More glorious Sunday bells from the cathedral near my house.

I went to makeup party at the hospital the other day. It was sponsored by various cancer groups promising free samples. I was sceptical but I attended "Look Good, Feel Better" because I really miss my eyebrows and my hair...well I asked Hubby if he thought I looked like Bernie Sanders and he just stifled a chuckle and said nothing. I suggested maybe dying it pink and gelling it into points on both sides, fashioning clown hair. That did not go over well. So I attended, got good points about camouflaging post surgical figure issues, blotchy skin and other problems from treatment. Well the cosmetics are really high end and I got some tips that work and I walked out of there rocking eyebrows and a wig! The hairpiece is a little dark, but I was transformed into a younger looking version of myself and it felt great!

Happy Mothers

Every holiday and cultural observance brings conflicting feelings to those who don't fit into the nuclear family script they feel society expects of them. Mothers' Day makes a lot of people sad as they remember a mother passed on or an absent, or an abusive parent happily left behind. Some women mourn the loss of a child or the inability to conceive. Some women elect not to have children. Mothers Day is not universally flowers and sweetness for all.
You don't have to be a mom to be a successful woman. You don't need to be a woman to be a great mom. Your kids don't have to be human to be nurtured as family. You don't need to show your devotion with roses and chocolate if you have none. There is no one size fits all.
I get that some holidays bring feelings of dread and isolation to many. Christmas makes me feel the same way, it just lasts longer. So while I loved and miss my mom, my hubby and I have two beautiful daughters, it still gives me pause when complete strangers make the assumption to wish me a Happy Mothers Day.

Update

I am so relieved to have learned that my sister who tried to wish my sister Gwyneth happy birthday got both her address wrong and misinterpreted the phone message. Gwyneth just doesn't care to talk to us but we are told she is happy and healthy. Rock on!
