After a few days of heat and humidity with thunder storms in the afternoons, the weather today was beautiful. I went out on my parking lot, turning over lids and pots to pour out any standing water that would breed mosquitoes. I opened the lid of the city-provided super trash bin...and shut it immediately. At the bottom of our chest high bin were steeping candy wrappers, garbage and baggies of dog waste in half a foot of murky brown water. Several days of sun on the closed container combined with the lid left open for the rain (then shut) had brewed a hideous, stinking poop soup. This had been done on purpose, I know. I always shut the lid and we don't have a dog. I habitually roll the bin well into the property and face the handle away from the alley to prevent dog walkers from making deposits. Bracing myself, I tipped the heavy bin over to empty and drain on the pavement- the trash collectors would never deal with it. I then ran inside for cleaning supplies. With dry heaves I triple bagged the seeping horror, and hosed and sprayed the bin. After all that, a hot shower and clean clothes were in order. My cold beer was well earned this afternoon. Remind me to cop some disposable gloves from the nurse next time I visit chemo camp. They may come in handy!
